RGB Colour and Light Mixing

To understand how the sensor "sees," it helps to distinguish between mixing paint and mixing light.

Subtractive (Paint)

When you mix paint, you bury the white paper. More colors = darker/muddy.

Subtractive Color Mixing
  • Red + Blue = Purple
  • Red + Blue + Yellow = Black

Additive (Light)

We are turning lights ON. The more colors you add, the brighter it gets!

  • Red + Green = Yellow
  • Red + Blue = Magenta
  • All Three = White
